Bloggers: The blogosphere is coming to an end.
You have one last post. What is it going to be?
What is the final summary of your blog?
What is the one last gem that you want to leave with your readers?
Well actually the blogosphere is not ending. I think it’s just beginning. (At least I hope so, for I want to become a pro blogger.) But what does this have to do with anything? Read on.
Update: This meme has been closed, and the results are here.
When I was a kid I used to donate all the time. I used to give to beggars, charities, my friends, everyone. Until I got ripped off by a few fake beggars. So I stopped, years ago.
I want to get back into it now. I want to donate, and not feel guilty or poor.
(Plus, giving money away is a lot harder when it’s your own money, and not your parents.)
I want to get back into the spirit of giving. I’ve no right to ask for donations on my blog if I don’t give. So it’s charity time. And I want to give it in your names.
There’s been a lot of doubt whether or not I’ll actually donate. Let me assure you I’ve been in contact with the Salvation Army, and they’ve confirmed that there will be a receipt. The moment no new links come in for 2 weeks, I’ll donate as promised, and show you guys the receipt (maybe a picture if it’s physical and not digital). I’m around for the long haul, you guys can see that I’ve poured everything into my articles, my design, and the marketing, so I’m not risking my marketing for $500.
So how do I combine those two unrelated topics?
I’m starting a blog meme and I want you to join in.
*update*
Your traffic will increase. Your earnings will increase (if you monetize your blog). Your Google and Technorati ratings will go up. So will mine. I know I get a lot more link love then you guys, so I’ll donate to charity for you if you do – that way it’s not so unfair. Everybody wins. I wish I could offer more, but I have no way of knowing how out-of-control this meme will get so I thought I’d play safe. If it goes beyond $500, I might extend it to $1,000. (I’ve only made like $30 from my blog so please understand that this is quite a big sum for me)
Here’s how it works:
The blogosphere is ending. No more blogs. Blog apocalypse. The internet is still working, the world is fine. But you can’t write anymore. Write your last post. Make it a good one. What is the reason you blog? What is the last gem of knowledge you want to leave? What do you want to be remembered for? Who are you? What is the meaning of life? Haha…well not exactly but you get the point. Pour your heart into it.
You’ll gain far better direction with your blog once you have this. Look at the top bloggers – why are they so successful? They have a passion and direction. Same applies for everything in life – and hey this is good training.
Or you can make it one sentence. If you don’t feel like making a post, a sentence would do – “Goodbye cruel world!”
If you’re a tech blogger, for example, you can write about your favourite gadget, or maybe a final future-proofed tips list for selecting a good one.
If you’re a political blogger, what do you want to achieve? What is your ideal world? Who do you wish was shot and buried, and who do you support?
If it’s a religious blog, what’s the one teaching you wish everyone would take to heart? What is the core teaching of your religion?
If you are promoting your business, make it your final sell. Or simply state BUY FROM ME!!
I’m a personal development blogger, so I’ll leave a post on what made the most impact on my life.
Tell your visitors what you are doing.
Please put a link back to this post, so they can read it and know what’s going on. Also I’ll track all link backs to this post so I know how much to donate.
OPTIONAL: Email me at albert(at)urbanmonk(dot)net to let me know you’ve participated.
For each link back I get, I’ll put a dollar aside. Once it reaches $500 I will write a cheque for a charity, probably the Salvation Army. (thanks for the idea, Mitch!)
I’m also happy to take suggestions if you don’t like the Salvos. Leave comments with your favorite charity, preferably one that provides receipts so I can show you guys!
If it fizzles out before it reaches $500 I’ll put round it up to the nearest hundred and donate that much (so 101 links will net $200).
This blog has been up for about 8 weeks, and I’ve only made like $30 so far from it, so this is seriously out of pocket.
Next, please just tell all your other friends on the blogosphere. Make a list of links to them at the bottom of your post, and then email them so they know to join in. They will then hopefully join in.
The emails are very important…let them know the benefits of joining in (backlinks to them, traffic and charity), and that its an interesting subject to blog about!
This is where charity really gets it – the more you tag, the higher the chance they join in. So 1 post can get as much money to charity as you want – from $10 to $20 or more!
Also, put a link back to the person who inducted you into the Apocalypse, even if it isn’t me.
This way, everybody gets lots of links. The people you link to will link back to you and me. So we get link love. They will also link to their friends, just like in Step Three, and their friends will get link love.
WHY LINK?
Links are the lifeblood of a blog. They raise your Google rankings and your Technorati rankings and a lot of other stuff, which result in a lot more traffic and recognition, which helps you achieve your blogging goals, whether it be spreading your message or making money. But you probably know that already.
So take the time to post for charity!
I’ve also made some pictures for you to put up on your blog if you want.

When is your deadline? I am thinking of a really grand post for this one but it’ll take me a little bit of time to formulate!
Hi mate! Thanks for the quick reply! There is no deadline, I’ll donate whenever it reaches $500, or if things fizzle out, I’ll donate rounded up! So if I get 201 posts, I’ll round up to $300!
Thanks!
Great idea Albert – I’m thinking of an idea already!
Was just wondering if there should be a limit on the number of bloggers the rest of us tag though? Some bloggers could be tagged multiple times and there could be a lot of “overlap” if there’s unlimited tagging, if you know what I mean?
Hi John, thanks for joining!
I think it’s OK to be tagged multiple times, since they already have a post they could just link back to the second or third person who tagged them.
A limit is a great idea, but it might restrict how many people get the meme.
I’m also thinking of raising the $500 cap, to a $1000, depending on how my finances are and how well this goes!
Fair enough, on that basis then the more the merrier!
Looking forward to read your entry John!
Albert, Albert, Albert…
Don’t you know that writers like me LIVE for challenges like this?? It’s like writing a retroactive eulogy about the time that you spent on the blogosphere!
VERY cool idea, and I want to give my post some thought, but I’m definitely in.
Big props to you for coming up with such an original idea, and the graphics are a great add-on to make the whole idea more memorable!
Thanks for joining in everyone…and Aaron, glad you can join in… I thought you’d bomb my meme
Just joking. Glad to see you’re a mature guy haha!

Great idea for a meme, that was a lot of fun to work on. I just took part, the results of which can be found here:

hi, i’ve done your meme! tagged by a very influential blogger in Malaysia, 5xMom. she tagged practically everyone in her blogroll! but remember to put a dollar aside for my post!
Hey guys thanks for all the contributions so far!
Yes I’m glad 5xMom tagged me! she’s helped a lot!
@ SVB, there is no deadline for this, but I’ll close it after 2 weeks of no new entries.
@ Sweatpea, can’t find ur post? But thanks!

Deb
Hi there, I’ve also participated in this challenge, after being tagged by Damian
Hi Nathalitanis! Thanks for joining…I tried to leave a comment in your blog but seems to some kind of error, so I’m not sure if you can get it. Hope you read this.
@ everyone else so far, thanks for joining! I’m considering donating $100 in advance and showing the receipt on the blog for the people who doubt that I’m going to donate.
Again, I’m around for the long haul. I’ve put in up to 8-10 on this blog on some days, and at least 4-5 on other days. I’ve spent money on advertising, SEO and so on. I won’t risk it all for $500. I will donate once it hits that level, or round up to the nearest $100 and donate if it dies off before then. Don’t worry.
The apocalypse unveils the window to Heaven — and what do you know, it’s full of stars!

Thanks everyone! Jane, if you’re reading this, thanks as well. I couldn’t visit your post as it somehow couldn’t load for me!

Great idea, thank you for starting this!
Thanks for the cool meme, Urban Monk!
I can’t believe what a great idea this is…I’m planning a meme of my own in conjunction with a few friends to try and get folks to stop saying “I wish” and just start doing it! Blessings all!
http://jarofspiders.com/verana.....hy-i-blog/
I’m working on my post now, Monk. NEAT idea, although the concept scares me sleepless.
Thanks everyone! Susan, looking forward to reading it!
Did the deed.
I haven’t read through this whole thread to see if someone has mentioned it, but I recall something abou the Salvation Army being somewhat homophobic. May not be true, but if so, my vote would be for a different charity.
Heya, yes I have had a couple of anti-Salvos out there. I will hunt for another one. Thanks for joining!
My last post is up: Flower petal days. Thanks for the meme and reflection it inspired.
=)
I’ve done it. My post is called The Lore of the Avatars.
We are in The Apocalypse, The Apocalypse has begun.
Third World War will beguine possible in 06.06.2007.

hi … i’ve done it
)
Writing mine now. Great idea and unique approach on the link love meme. Made some new friends along the way.
By the way. The Salvation Army is not a homophobic organization. The issue several years back was extending health benefits to same sex partners. The same debate facing many corporate and other insurance groups. Their mission is to meet human need, in Jesus name, without discrimination. They do good work.
Thanks to Andy at the Spicy Cauldron for passing your challenge on to me. My entry is on the HermitBlog page of my website, and is entitled What If.
I, for one, am not a huge supporter of the Salvos because of their discrimination based on creed and sexual orientation. I’d recommend something along the lines of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent society, or maybe your local National Public Radio station? Just an idea.
Thanks for the challenge!
Thanks for all your comments, everyone. Seems to be a bit of an argument popping up around the Salvation Army…I’ll keep an eye out for a different charity. International Red Cross sounds good, I’ll visit their website now.
Nice idea!
Blog apocalypse certainly seems to be creating some buzz for you.
Good work.
Very cool idea, and a worthy aim.
I think my post worried a few of my readers though
Thanks for that everyone!
This really is a grand idea. I am a new reader of Tinkerbell and saw this meme and followed the link love to it’s origin. I will definitely participate and just for creating this meme you have earned yourself a bookmark.
Be well and enjoy the day.
Thank you very much Danielle, I’ll link out to you as well!
I finally posted a little blurb about this meme. I hope it passes muster. I admit it’s a bit whimpy, but my blogging is not virile these days.
Great idea, though. I hope you get the traffic and links you deserve. From the looks of the comments, you’re on your way. Best of luck!
Here’s the link to the post. It’s in the “explorations…” section on my sidebar. Blog Apocalypse Meme
I’ll also link to your blog on my front page. Since we share an interest in personal development, perhaps you could also link to me.

I found this idea to be so intriguing and I have just posted my “last post.”
