I am a Hot Asian ™

I am a hot Asian.

Come to my blog and subscribe.

Oh wait…that doesn’t work. Sadly I was born with something extra in my pants…something really extra.

What am I rambling about? I haven’t posted some of this personal stuff because I wanted to keep a good ratio of quality to crap, but I think I deserve a personal notice post now…

I’ve been learning about blogging, blog promotion, and blog monetization for about 2 months now. I have been researching and travelling the blogosphere. These blogs have given me too much info to consume, I’m experimenting with lots of different promotion methods: article marketing, SEO, MyBlogLog, Blog Apocalypse, social bookmarking, blog carnivals, the list goes on.

My point is? Out of the hundreds of blogs that I read, I have subscribed to three of them for their great and helpful material. But there are another two bloggers that stick out in my head. And I don’t even read their content. Nyamo and Kumiko. Not that they haven’t done any marketing work, because they sure have put in the legwork, but tell me that these pictures didn’t have anything to do with their popularity.

Nyamo
Kumiko

Nyamo’s got hundreds of people in her blog community, and yet her stuff is all in Japanese! I bet you a million dollars only 5% of them even read the language.

Sigh…I wish I was a hot Asian girl. I’d get five times as many visitors.

Okay, rant over. I just got a bit frustrated with all the marketing efforts. Maybe I should pretend to be a woman and change the blog name to Urban Nun.

Recommended Sites

While I’m here, I would like to point out a few of the other blogs that I mentioned were helpful.

In Personal Development:

Kara Leah Masina: Be conscious now.
- A great blog that mixes “normal” Personal Development and the metaphysical. I got hooked on her blog after reading her “Kundalini awakening or bi-polar surfacing?” post. Not many people will have to courage to go through what she did, and even better, blog about it afterwards.
(Thanks for your glowing review, if you’re reading this!)

Anmol Mehta: Mastery of Meditation, Enlightenment, and Kundalini Yoga.
- While I haven’t gotten into Kundalini and Yoga (probably in the near future I will), he has got some awesome stuff on Meditation and Enlightenment. Definitely a “can’t – leave – the – screen – till – you – devour – everything” blog.

Kenton Whitman: Zen-Inspired Self Development
- Another great blog. Simple and striking material, clearly presented. Highly recommended. I love his writing style. And his material, very practical and down to earth. He’s also a martial instructor too, and an all round A+ guy.

(He also said he liked me better than Steve Pavlina – one of the greatest compliments anyone has ever paid me! Unless you count the girl who said I look like Russell Wong. Must…control…ego…) Sorry. I haven’t fully monetized my blog and I’m not making much from it (yet), so I have to survive on compliments.

In blogging, online marketing and making money online:

Copyblogger
- One of the best writing websites out there, I learnt how to write from him and a few other books. If you see some of my outdated articles, I’ve rewritten them so you can see the difference.

John Chow dot com
- Some great tips on blogging and monetizing your blog. Got some great material in there, mixed in with other stuff that I don’t really read (like fine dining – I don’t live in the same country, bleh).

HarpZon.com
- One of the top sources of no-BS info I’ve found. Heartily recommended if you’re a blogger looking to get the most out of your blog.

Changes

As you might have noticed, I’ve rewritten a lot of my older articles. So if you’re an old reader, go have a browse around! I’ve redesigned my site like three times, and this won’t be the last time.

I’ve also written an ebook! It’s free, just like everything else on this site.

Anyway personal notice update = officially over.

I’ve got around 10 awesome articles 90% written, and they just need some polishing before I post them. I’ve got stuff on dating and attraction, power and leadership, business and finance, gratitude, and a lot more, so STAY TUNED!

Link back for increased exposure!

I’ve now added some recent comments and recent trackbacks section on every page. So if you want your blog linked to on every. single. page. of the Urban Monk site, there’s encouragement for ya. Comments will increase your presence and traffic too.

Oh, and please leave a comment, I am curious as to how people would take such personal posts. Hate, Love, indifferent?

Hey everyone… apologies if this turned any one off my blog…I thought it would be nice to have some light hearted stuff after all the 2 months of seriousness… I just thought you should see another side of me haha.

  2. Anmol says:

    Hey Albert,

Thanks for your compliments on Mastery of Meditation… they are truly humbling. On a different note, my wife thinks you should change the pic of the UrbanNun to yourself in Drag… now that would be a sight to see… :-)

  3. Albert says:

    That WAS me in drag…

you wanted feedback about your “personal” post. it’s funny. ALL my posts are about me!

i rather liked it. i got a good kick out of it this morning. i think it gave your blog some personality. for me, blogs take the place of sitting there in front of a person and talking to them. when you added your “i’m a hot asian” rants, you became even more personable. at least it is for me. thanks for posting my like again. i got one person this morning. i think i WILL favorites your site because you have pics of those two asian girls! LoL ! and i’m female!

good luck to your monetizing efforts,
    M

Heya M, thanks for commenting! Yes I thought it’d be good fun, but I toned it down a little, just in case I lose some readers hehe!

  6. Hey Albert,
I, too, struggle with “here’s all my information in a very serious tone” versus more personal stuff woven in. I’ve had some very ironic events occur to me in my life. I waver between writing a book of humor called, “One Day On The Way To Enlightenment…” or the serious book perhaps titled “Wake Up NOW!” Since I love this post, I feel you have provided a good road map for bringing in a little lightness to the world. Nothing wrong with that. As far as making money with your blog, I have one suggestion. Instead of announcing “I’ve only made $30 so far” in sort of this Eeyore voice; I suggest that you make it a big deal. “I’ve made $30! Isn’t that incredible! Magnificent! Miraculous! Thank you Universe!” Your earnings will increase dramatically (in my world view) because of increasing magnetics and vibration.

Great idea Gia! I didn’t realise I was turning a bit negative…I am proud of how far my blog has come, but sometimes I do get a bit bored with the tedious marketing work, I just want to write!

Thanks for commenting and thanks for the compliment – I guess I’ll throw in a personal post every fortnight or so.

  8. Albert, thanks for the humor. I just got my own brand new blog going. Still needs some fine tuning. If I get discouraged, I will come back and read this again. Laughter is always good for the soul. I like your style.

  9. Albert:

I love the “I am a hot Asian.” Don’t change it. Why worry about the few who might be offended? You must not have read my guest article I did over at Alex Shalman’s blog where I talked about the courage of offending a few people b/c you want to do something different, funny or even outrageous. Want to see it? It’s at http://www.alexshalman.com/blo.....nd-people/

Why not? Keep it Albert – it’s way HOT. LOL

  10. Albert says:

Hah! This post is still one of my favourites, even after all this time. Thanks for digging it up from the archives. I’ll jump on over to your guest article right now.

  11. APA says:

    怒れては駄目ですよ! ;)

    Make that 6% haha! :D

  12. Albert says:

hey apa! thanks for digging up this post ;)

  13. Joe says:

umm… this post does say some interesting things about you. But, most importantly that you are a real person! Maybe some things about about me too since I clicked on the link, eh? lol

  14. Albert says:

hahaha! yes it’s a bit of fun, hahah! I wonder what you were expecting?
