What a great post! When I look at my life, the painful parts were the parts that I really learned from. The good was sort of like icing on the cake! Thanks!

  2. You’re welcome Lee, glad you enjoyed it!

  3. Awesome Post Foong! Great Twist on a great topic! In my mind it all comes down to feeling happy! Stop looking “out there” and focus on the “in here”! Pretty simple, right!!!

    Stay Positive!

    Andy

  4. Thanks Andy, much appreciated!

  5. Hi Albert,

A great post there. I have been in touch with the Law of Attraction and Yes! Gratitude has a role in the practise of this universal law.

Gratitude is an attitude, and attitude is our thoughts, our feelings and actions.
Attitude affects the whole person, the triune being, the three levels of our personality.

    Secret of Law of Attraction

  6. Thanks Khooneng. I’ll check out your blog ASAP.

  7. This is a really great article. I just posted an article about gratitude and listed a link to this article and to your article entitled, “The Most Effective Ways to Express Gratitude”. I enjoyed reading both articles. For a young man, you are very wise. Thanks for sharing that wisdom with others. I am truly grateful for the person I have grown. Without my abusive childhood, I would not have the strength of character and caring that I have today. I was glad to find someone else sharing the idea of writing a gratitude journal. It makes you a more positive person.

  8. Hey Patricia, thanks for the comments. I appreciate your kind words - and good luck with your blog as well - I spent some time on it just now, good stuff.

  9. Wow, there’s a reason you’ve listed this post in your “Best of” section.

Thank you for this post (look-gratitude)!

  10. Hehe, you’re very welcome Angie, and thanks for commenting - it’s a great compliment to me too.

Albert, you rawk!!! I’m grateful that I found this site, I’m grateful for you, and I’m grateful that you post all these priceless insights for FREE. Many blessings to you from my side of the ocean (America).

  12. Hi Carolyn - I’m blushing now hehe. You’re very welcome, and hope you enjoy the rest of the site too!

  13. Hello Albert:

Your muscle building analogy is great. I agree with your approach and I feel that you’ve written a great article. I saw the title of the post inyour best of series out of the corner of my eye a few days ago. I’m really grateful :) that I read it today. :)

  14. Glad you like it Galba - it means a lot coming from someone as knowledgeable in emotional issues as you are. I’m grateful you’re here too :D

  15. Albert, I forgot that I had a link to this article with one of my previous gratitude articles. You now have a second link to this article from my site with my newest article, A Day Of Gratitude found at
    http://patriciasingleton.blogs.....itude.html
I started to say that I hope you are having a wonderful Thanksgiving but I don’t know if you live in the U. S.? Have a glorious day no matter where you live.

  16. Hey Patricia, thank you very much for the link back. Your presence and support, is always appreciated. Nope I’m in Australia but I appreciate your wishes as well. Blessings in return :D

  17. Albert, my friend, thanks for such a great and interesting article. I particularly liked the part about how we are all being prepared right now for what we want in the future. Brilliant post!

  18. Hey stephen, I’m glad that you’re here again. And thanks to Patricia once more for sending some traffic my way. Good to have you around!

  19. Albert:

Yes I know, it’s great to reconnect with you again! I LOVE your blog design. It’s gorgeous.

  20. Thanks Stephen, it’s a little labor of love for me. I’ve been seeing you generate a lot of buzz around the blogosphere lately; you’re really striking a chord with many readers - please keep up the good work. :D

  21. Albert:

Wow, thanks for the awesome compliment. “Generating buzz”??? That’s a very exciting phrase coming from a popular blogger like you. Thank you for sharing your perception from your end. I appreciate it. :)

  22. I agree with you that being grateful for everything is desirable. This enables us to reframe the benefits in what we may have initially perceived as mistakes. To judge our choices from yeaterday is to ignore that we are a different person today and constantly growing and learning.

  23. Thank you guys :D

  24. I like how you incorporate your lessons learned. As you remark, with age and risk-taking come new kinds of wisdom. You offer a glimpse into how life experiences have humbled you. Insodoing, you also offer readers valuable points to retain that can help anyone grow spiritually, financially and otherwise. Its a matter of choice and free will.

  25. Thank you again Liara, I really love having you here.

  26. Hi Albert,
Thanks for this post. It makes me look at gratitude in a different light. I’ll practise this henceforth.

Great going & keep up the good work.

    Rahul

  27. Thank you Rahul, good to have you here!

Thanks for this article - I am grateful :) I am currently working on my thesis on the use of language, and especially power words in all forms of human contact, and it is true that there are also power words employed in expressing gratitude. we can make ourselves feel as good as those we are indebted to.

    Official Word Project

  31. Thank you AF! Your thesis sounds awesome, good luck with it :D

  32. I’m really grateful I found this awesome post about gratitude. There is a note on my wall that says “Thank you God for all the blessings I have and for all the blessings I am receiving.” I read that every morning, noon and night… and it helps keep my attitude of gratitude on track. Thanks again for this post, you are an excellent writer. Now off to read more of your blog.

  33. Thanks so much Nolan, I appreciate the compliments a LOT :D

I have had an interesting phenomena in my life- when I accept with gratitude that which is presently in my life, the most out-of-the-blue, unanticipated miracles occur!
I have only been “waking up” since last year, but it has been fast- the synchronicity that falls into place, the shifts that piggyback one another, have been intense and rapid. Prior to my eyes opening to all of this, I lived in a state of constant desire- fantasizing about the future, feeling terribly sorry for myself when things didn’t go my way (and they never seemed to!) etc. Now I have discovered this trick, that if I can clear all that expectation and desire (which is based in “not good enough”, after all if what you have is enough why would you desire anything else?) and just sit with acceptance of what is, and gratitude for each and every blessing- as you say, my eyes work, etc…the most amazing things that are my deepest heart’s hopes happen! I have had things occur in the last several months that I never would have believed possible before.
Anyway- I am rambling here, but this post made me want to speak about this. I discovered your site a couple of months ago and have been avidly going through it. It is so relevant to where I am in my journey and I am SO grateful to YOU for having this site! I have a pattern now that if I am facing an emotion or a situation that I am not sure how to handle, I go to urbanmonk and let my instinct guide me through posts- inevitably relevant answers are found. :)

  35. Hey there Amy - Thanks for bringing your little trick to me. I’ve forgotten about gratitude, even though I wrote this article heh heh. I should go back to doing it, I got too caught up doing other forms of meditation. And thank you as well for the compliment :D

That is very inspiring and a truthful way to live our life with optimism. But, instead of saying that the Universe gives this or that why don’t you use the honorable word: “GOD”. Are you afraid of using it?
    Blessings, Glad

  37. This is a very inspiring message, but, why do you avoid naming God instead of the Universe (nevertheless the Universe was made by God, of course).
    Blessings, Glad
