Why Write for UrbanMonk.Net?

Why write for this blog? Hmm…there are a few reasons I can think of:

  • To share your message with more people, and add value to their lives.
  • To simply have fun and be a part of this warm and dedicated community.
  • To get some nice exposure and traffic with all the usual links that can be placed at the start and end of the article.

Some Ideas and Guidelines

This might sound very mean of me, and I already feel like a bad person for even saying this, especially since you are doing me a favour, but I might have to be rather picky about what I accept. So please, please don’t be offended if I have to turn down a guest post. Please feel free to run a few ideas past me before you start writing to avoid potentially wasting time. I hope you understand.

The rest is pretty easy, there really isn’t much to it, but just in case:

  • Editing. I might also edit for grammar and other minor things before posting.
  • Length. 1200 words or more, please! I realise this is a bit of a stretch for some writers but UrbanMonk.Net is known for comprehensive coverage of the chosen topic and this is simply to continue that tradition. Of course if you can provide a comprehensive look at your subject in less, that is fine.
  • Practicality. A practical slant will be appreciated, unless the theoretical material is awesome!
  • Excerpt. If you look at the main or categories page, you’ll see a short excerpt next to the square picture, enticing readers to click on the post. While I am happy to write one for you, you might want to write one for yourself.
  • Unique. Please make sure that the post is unique, and not posted anywhere else – including your own blog. This is to help avoid bombs and missiles, and search engines might also penalise both blogs for duplicate content.
  • Affiliate Links. No affiliate links please!
  • Images. I am happy to provide images, but if you have an image that is okay to use copyright-wise, please feel free to send them in for consideration too.

This is a good guest post if you are wondering what kind of quality gets through: What addiction can teach you about personal development. It is comprehensive, well-written, and includes a personal touch that is very inspiring.

Some Tips For Getting The Most Traffic and Readership

  • Writing Style. Whatever you want. Lists and so on are very popular and enhance readability, but you don’t have to. It is a good idea to use subsections to break up the post and make it more readable, though.
  • Adaptation. Some guest bloggers try to adapt to my existing material and writing style. It is a huge compliment, so thank you, but it is not necessary. I feel guest posts are about adding variety and freshness, so your specialties and writing style are exactly what is needed :D .
  • Content. Again, your specialties will be great too. There is no need to adapt to my existing material. Personal growth is a huge topic, and I only know a little bit of it. Feel free to plug in any gaps I have. Again, I am happy to discuss some ideas before you start writing. Anything to make it easier for you.
  • More on Content. I’ve found that showing off your best stuff is a good idea. The amount of traffic and RSS subscribers you get is directly related to how much readers like your content.
  • Introductory Sentence. All guest posts are preceded with an introductory sentence and link, to be put in by me: This is a guest article by ABC of XYZ blog.
  • Author Biography. Feel free to write a paragraph showing off your blog at the end of the article, with a maximum of two links. Many writers have found highlighting your best post on your blog or a link to your RSS feed gets them a lot of traffic.

That’s about it. Sorry if this sounds very retentive in a certain part of the anatomy, but it really is quite easy, and just to get everything in one nice location.

And most of all, thank you for considering a guest post!

When will my post be published?

There’s a good chance there will be a few weeks wait. I normally have a few waiting to be posted, and I try to keep a few of my own articles in between the various guest posters I have - otherwise readers might think, why not just read their blogs instead? :D
